National Youth Service: A global idea for local action:
Proceedings and papers of the third global conference on national youth service

The Third (3rd) Global Conference on National Youth Service was held at the Islander Travelodge in Port Moresby from 14th-18th October, 1996.

The Conference was attended by Chief Executives of National Youth Service Organisations, Heads of Departments of Youth and Social Services, NGO representatives, scholars, researchers and even politicians from around the World. A week long PNG National Youth Service Workshop was held before the Conference proper to prepare the local delegates for the Conference from 5th-9th October, 1996.

Conference theme: National Youth Service: A Global Idea for Local Action

Goal: Advancement of National Youth Service throughout the world

Primary objective: to discuss the role of Youth Service in youth development programmes; to elaborate the potential of an alliance of Youth Services for the promotion of international understanding, peace and co-operation; to provide mechanisms for formalising this alliance.
