The Annie Bishop Bequest
The University of Tasmania Cancer Research Fund

Applications where sought from University staff, including research active staff on limited time appointments, for funding from the University of Tasmania Cancer Research Fund.

The Fund was established with a bequest from the late Annie Bishop and is to be applied to research that is relevant to the understanding of cancer, its prevention, cure or treatment.

The Committee administering the Fund determined that in 2003 up to $30,000 would be available " to support initiatives that enable researchers to further improve their capacity to attract external research grants".

The successful candidates were:

Dr Roger Lord & Professor Peter Stanton Analysis of breast cancer proteins using proteomics
Dr Greg Woods & Dr Scott Ragg Elucidation of the role of the fusion proteins in the growth and pregression of leukemic cells using RNA interference.
Dr Alison Venn, Prof Terry Dwyer, Dr Leigh Blizzard, Dr Greg Woods, Prof Konrad Muller and Dr Joanne Dickinson Pilot study to examine biological, lifestyle and genetic risk factors associated with the development of second and subsequent non melanoma skin cancers in people with a history of skin cancer.
